about

Have you played this album for a friend yet? Maybe they aren't yet familiar with how Captain Beefheart's Magic Band, Moon Dog, kraut rock, Steven Wright and the Audubon Society overlap. This record can be that introduction. You take the obtuse pattern cycling of the magic band, add an incisive inventory of fauna fobles, pause for a high-intensity pitched woodblock drum break, drop back into angular loops and charge your enchantment with a groovy mesmerization, maybe even a husked breath fable. Pretty simple. Not sure why other bands aren't doing it. Do they not see the obvious undergirding? How deprived! At least you've got a Receptacles for that. (Andrew Shoat, LA, 2022)

about

Receptacles Stockholm, Sweden

Receptacles are Joe Williamson (bass, vocals), Anton Toorell (guitar) and Dennis Egberth (drums).

They make music that disturbs easy categorization. While listeners may hear influences from no-wave, afro-beat, free jazz, funk or punk – Receptacles are not simply a mix of these styles. They have harnessed an essence of spontaneity and in doing so have created something completely their own.
